Six knobs: Mix, Gravity, Feedback, and Size, plus Lo and Hi EQ – five of which offer adjustment of two parameters each, allowing control over the ten original Blackhole knobs. If you’re still reading, here’s a brief overview of what’s under the hood. If you’re looking for huge palatial reverb with a metric ton of options and extras via MIDI with expression pedal happiness, stop reading now and go buy this thing. The Blackhole gets all the praise for, well, living up to its name. To be clear, I am indeed writing a review of a pedal, that came from a plug-in, that came from an algorithm. The journey has taken it inside the box as a plug-in, and now back into the physical realm as a standalone pedal. Earlier I said “preset,” but truth be told it’s been an algorithm since birth, and while maintaining that now-classic vacuous sound it has gotten several tweaks along the way. However, this was not the Blackhole’s origin – it first graced the ears of audio engineers who were lucky enough to use the Eventide DSP4000 Ultra-Harmonizer in the mid-’90s. It was instantly my new fave, as it enabled me to get that “disappeared into audio” sound that seemed more elusive then. I first became aware of the Blackhole as a preset in Eventide’s Space reverb pedal in mid-2011. But ever since, I’ve restlessly searched for an ideal solution, changing from pedal to pedal. Out of necessity, I learned to make it happen whatever the gear, but after a few years I said, “Fuck this” and started carrying pedals for FOH use, with that practice bleeding over into the control room once High Bias Studios opened in 2003. The hellish reality of ‘90s touring dictated that, with rare exception, a display addled Yamaha SPX990 or a TC Electronic D-TWO (with the scroll knob sheared off) were the best you could hope for. Between Ultrasuede and the studio I now call home, I spent several years touring as a FOH engineer. Little did I know it then, but I was a spoiled young reverb snob. One of the many advantages of coming up at the venerable Ultrasuede Studios was that we had an EMT 140 plate reverb left behind by Reggie Calloway, and an AKG BX20 spring reverb. Everyone has a favorite, and people are absurdly particular and become oddly attached to what works for them, myself included. In a few years, if the lady likes the results and wants a better quality print - WhiteWall at 60 x 20 for $478 is certainly the place to go. With Costco now doing 60" x 20" for essentially $20 dollars, this made it very possible. I have a customer who desired both size and price. There are newer more durable mediums in the market besides paper. I don't want to talk about the age related color bleeding that happens with (they call it poor) prints. After 10 years or so it is just material deterioration that you have no control over (the paper acidity/quality comes into play at this age and you can see it then and you can tell if a 10 year old Costco or any other print was quality or not). store it in a place where it won't deteriorate (again mostly humidity and dust free). Also, the lady emails - gets going on this - and then travels on business, and then picks up a couple of weeks later - so time has not been of the essence.Īnyway, the other week I was sitting here thinking if only Costco printed a bit larger, things would be pretty perfect (cost, color and quality). So, I have been hunting around for other alternatives. The problem was size - Costco had a size limitation with 20" x 30" being the cap. Of course I took some parts from Tigra Astronomy but in general, it was developed from scratch.Īnother thing we need is a g-code parser which converts graphical g-code instructions to steps for stepper motors. But I couldn't make it work and I decided to develop my own. However, if you have code for the older shield, adapting the code to use the new shield isnt difficult. This library is not compatible with the older AFMotor library used for v1 shields. To use the shield on an Arduino, youll need to install the Adafruit Motorshield v2 library. You may say that this library works with an Adafruit motor shield. Install Adafruit Motor Shield V2 library. I used to think just like you, but as I sink my teeth deeper into the game, IMO, Aphrodite is top tier in term of reliability across low to extreme high heat, only to be beaten by the almighty Athena. Cold Embrace (Cast crystal fires beam at you) was OP when I put chill and decay on cast as close range melee. I just tapped enemies and they exploded lol. I put on Curse of Longing (Doom continuously strikes weakened foes) and it absolutely shredded everything in my path. ![]() Charm is buggy on bosses for me though - only works half the time. Charm can stop enemies in their tracks, buying you additional window to do damage, summon companion, etc. You can use her high flat rate damage call at long range, similar to Artemis. Along with Dionysus and Demeter, her boons can be helpful for low hp build or few death defiances remaining. Plus she has follow up boons to increase damage multiplier on Weakened enemies. Weak increases base damage attack/special (cast only on undamaged foes). Only drawback is close range requirement. Other curses like Jolted or Exposed are not guaranteed to proc with one cast throw. Cast = easy PS proc with ONE cast in a pinch. Sometimes RNG sucks and won't give you curse easily. 4/8 gods require investing in additional boon for curse. ![]() ![]() It's up to you to decide how to use them. Aphrodite is easy to dismiss, I did at first, but like all gods and weapons they have their place. Summarizing a few things other people have said, and a couple more points. I'd still probably skip him on the builds where I don't really use attack at all, only specials/casts/powershots, but the damage is real on melee. 50 damage ticks a second are no joke, and I'll admit I was wrong to be overlooking Dio. Granted I settled for the hammer "Attack's trigger twice, no knockback" as well as the duo boon with Ares that makes Hangover tick ~50% faster. Trippy shot is amazing with Achilles spear, but that's insane AoE burst, not really hangover synergy.ĮDIT: Just tried a run with Dionysus on Attack with Chaos Shield. What do you like using him with as far as weapon/aspect? I feel like I've stumbled across enough comments from people who say Hang Over is underwhelming (damage over time is just slow), and every fast attack build (Fists or Rail) I just take Zeus or Athena on Attack. For the most part I focus on Zeus/Artemis for Damage, Posideon/Athena for Utility, and then Detemer/Aphrodite as a final fill in piece when forced (although Ares and Detemer can be great on certain specials). To be honest, I've spent very little time experimenting with Dionysus, so by no means can I confidently argue against him. I guess there is a lot I haven't seen haha I have not yet hit a point where I would feel like taking her would be a bigger benefit. When you upgrade hangover it can do crazy amounts of damage and you can do it pretty safe if you are good at running around and dodging just kind of hit enemies run and let them die to the poison. Some of my most fun builds that I ran with were hangover builds.
